Will Jack T submit to psychological testing?

by

I do not like when people don’t have better things to do than harrassing people and finally …someone understood that the so called lawyer Jack Thompson is a bit of a nutcase.
The Florida Bar is proposing that the “lawyer” submit to psychological testing and accept a 91-day suspect of his law license as part of a Florida Supreme Court mandated mediation, Game Politics reports.

Thompson copied Game Politics in an email with the Florida Supreme Court:

“Mediation failed today because there was no mediation whatsoever… Ms. Tuma not only did not move off her demand one iota, not one smidgeon, but she instead upped her demand by requiring that Thompson undergo a battery of psychological tests as part of the fabulous deal The Bar offered him…
Ms. Tuma last demand going into the mediation was a 91-day suspension, and she opened and ended with that and a shrink’s couch. This is bad faith…

This “mediation” was a charade… Finally, [Thompson] requests a status conference herein as soon as possible so that we can… shut this Star Chamber down. Thompson is not the one who needs a psych evaluation. “

It’s great that someone realized that something has to be done when a lawyer constantly harasses journalist, game developers and others. And if there is someone that need to be permanently disbarred from his lawyer-duties in my opinion its Jack Thompson.

Couldn’t help myself including this one from Penny Arcade … when I heard this news!

Jack Thompson could be devoting his time and energy to fighting for the rights of gays, the poor, abused women, minorities, the oppressed people of Tibet, or any of a myriad of worthwhile causes.

Instead he has made it his life’s work….to fight game developers?

I’m noticing a trend in the U.S. of politicians making the banning of violent video games part of their election campaign in order to win the votes of parents.
I am a good, responsible mother and an avid gamer. And promising to outlaw violent video games is one way that these politicians can be sure that I will never vote for them.

Let me put my opinion on the whole violent video game controversy in a simple nutshell:
If you are a sane person, a violent video game will not turn you violent.
If you are psychotic than you could watch a Disney cartoon and hear messages from Satan telling you to kill.
It is not the content of the games that leads to violence, it is the mental state of the person playing the games that causes the violence. A disturbed individual who is given only Barbie Horse Adventures to play, might go out and violate horses sexually because he already has a preexisting mental problem THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GAME.
Meanwhile, I can slay legions of the undead,
then put down my controller, go read my daughter a story ,put her to bed and not go on a killing spree. Why? Because I’m sane.

To attack the source of the problem, get help and therapy for the individuals. Don’t attack the games.

Thompson would do well to get psychological testing and hopefully therapy, because his life’s work has been a waste.
