Blizzard breaks chinese copyright

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

Blizzard Entertainment is well versed in legal action with yet another attempt to sue their organisation. The case is the latest in a series of lawsuits between Chinese and U.S companies.

This time a Chinese font supplier company ( Beijing Founder Electronics Co Ltd) has sued Blizzard due to the illegal exploitation of Founder’s copyrighted fonts.

Beijing Founder Electronics Co Ltd is the largest font supplier company in China and they have created hundreds of multi-language fonts which are widely used by Chinese people.

According to Founder Group, Blizzard has illegally copied and used five of Founder’s fonts in World of Warcraft game, and that this rip off has caused 1 billion yuan (97.7 million in euro) loss to Founder.

Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft has been illegally copying and using five fonts exclusively developed by Founder Electronics, without our permission, which is an infringement of our copyright,” commented the spokeperson of Founder Group, Song Zhenying at ChinaDaily.

Since this is a fight between good lawyers I don’t think there will be any big issues around this, but I do think everybody , especially blizzard that always talks about their EULA and people violating it, should respect the copyright protection …

Rockstar fights back

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

The guys over at 1Pstart.com are reporting that “Rockstar has finally made its decision to fight for their much anticipated, highly controversial title, Manhunt 2, by issuing an appeal to the Video Appeals Committee in the UK.

Rockstar filed their plea yesterday, in hopes of defending the artistic merits of Manhunt and convincing the BBFC (the British Board of Film Classification) to overturn their decision to refuse a rating to Manhunt 2 given on June 19th.”

303411.jpgThis is great news; course even though I do not like manhunt I still think that’s its up to the individual to decide if he or she wants to play the game and not the government.

Painkiller on silver screen

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

medium_painkillerpic.jpg

Variety reports that a man stuck between heaven and hell will come to the movies across the world … soon. Oh yes I am talking about the First Person shooter Painkiller that is latest to get the Hollywood make-over. C’mon guys stop doing movies of games …it doesn’t work and if it does its so rare that its not wort it …

The game is being brought to the movies by the team behind up coming Eddie Murphy film Starship Dave, written by Mystery Science Theatre 3000 scribe Bill Corbett and some other guy.

Why a Painkiller flick? After movie producer Jon Berg (Elf) saw the title on a 60 Minutes segment last year about competitive gaming (the one with fatal1ty), he decided to pursue the film rights.

The Painkiller adaptation will be penned new comer Ben McGaw let’s hope he doesn’t set his eyes at Uwe boll when it comes to directing the movie …

NO games doens’t make you violent

Monday, July 30th, 2007

datorspelw1.jpgSince I am also a mother I get to hear this following phrase a lot: “Will you really let your son play video games”. Yes it’s true, even though we live in the 20’Th century people are still afraid for things they don’t know. My advice to parents around the country is to get involved in what their kids are doing …hey you might even like it. Anyway a new study published in the Journal of Adolescent Health has found that playing violent video games does not lead to violent behaviour in teens. The study also found that violent video games can help teens deal with their emotions like stress and anger.

Researchers looked at more than 1,200 seventh and eight graders who played video games regularly. “We found that most boys 12-14 years old are playing mature-rated video games, so this idea that ‘M’ rated games cause shootings or major violence just doesn’t hold water,” said Cheryl Olson SC.D., Massachusetts General Hospital.

Best of E3 07

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

I should summarize the E3 07 for you shouldn’t I?
You probably know, by now that this year’s E3 was a lot different than in years past. There were no booths to tour, no crowds to navigate, and no lines and of course no bootbabes …sorry guys no pictures for you there …

While the nature of the show changed, the amount of games on display did not.
This holiday season should be the best the industry has ever seen, and the software at E3 is proof of that. With literally hundreds of games to sort through, choosing the nominees in each category was no easy task.

The GameTrailers editorial team locked themselves inside a conference room for hours sorting through all the nominees and winners to bring you our annual Best of E3 Awards. A year until next time and with that in mind, enjoy the very best of E3 2007!

King’s Bounty: The Legend - E3 2007 Trailer

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

The E3 07 videos never stop coming … well I found a goodie here. Have you ever playgames like Heroes of Might and Magic, Disciples, and Age of Wonders? You might even know that the precursor of the game was Kings Bounty?

Well talking about Kings Bounty and E3 07 …here is a trailer from the remake or sequel of the original King’s Bounty that came out 17 years ago. The original King’s Bounty was released in 1990 (by the now-defunct New World Computing) and blends RPG adventure, real-time exploration with turn-based tactical combat.

New World of Warcraft dungeon

Friday, July 13th, 2007

burning-crusades.jpgFinally a little World of Warcraft news … even if it’s in fact little for all of us that are expecting a new expansion for Wow or a Diablo III announcement.

Anyway, at E3, Blizzard recently reveled that along with fully integrated voice chat and guild vaults, Blizzard will be adding a new outdoor 10-man dungeon called Zul’Aman in an upcoming patch. It’s located in the south-east corner of the Ghostlands, an area ruled by Zul’jin and his Forest Trolls. These guys, under a witch doctor, have started fusing animal spirits into some of their warriors. In fact, they’ve done it to four, who will serve as the majority of the dungeon’s six boss encounters.
