Age of Conan is the shit

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

MMO games is the shit …at least if we look at the most selling game right now. I have tried many MMO, but of course since I am a Blizzardfangirl I still play world of warcraft …but there are two games in the MMO genre I really look forward to. First Warhammer Online, since I am a geek and have 6 armies from the fantasy game at home …I also must have the MMO game… The other game is shown on the video below. It’s Age of Conan.

And this trailer shows us the snow covered forest lands of Atzels that are aroma to barbarian warriors willing to brave the coldest winter seasons.

Azerothians, tonight we died in hell …

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Since I am a huge fan of the Movie ‘300’ I am happy to announce that according to Gamasutra, Blizzard is working very closely with Legendary Pictures, with the developing of the World of Warcraft Movie.

azeroth.jpg

And Legendary Pictures chairman and 300 producer Thomas Tull discussed (during his keynote at the Hollywood & Games summit,) his company’s upcoming film adaptation of the mega-popular World of Warcraft. You got to love that …

“We’re doing World of Warcraft, and making it into a movie,” said Tull, but noted, “I have very strong feelings — from the movie side — that making movies based on games just because they sold well is a really bad idea. There’ve been some like that that weren’t up to snuff just out of the gate.”

He continued, “It doesn’t matter to us if it’s based on a graphic novel like [Frank Miller's] 300, or a TV show – if there’s a great universe and story, that’s what’s interesting to us.”

Speaking about the relative size of a game adaptation’s potential audience, he noted, “Sure, there are 8 million people playing WoW, but even if all of those people saw the movie multiple times, we’d still be screwed.”

I have one word for you about this movie, weither you are a World of warcraft fan or not, it’s going to be awesome.

Watching LEGO Universe

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

I was a very odd girl as a child, I loved huge and fast cars and I really loved to explore the magnificent world of LEGO … Damn I still love Lego although today a car should be a looker more than a big one.

Anyway for all of you LEGO lovers, you probably know that The LEGO Group and NetDevil are constructing LEGO Universe, a Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG). LEGO Universe will be a safe and engaging internet experience including all of the building and creativity inherent in LEGO products.

How fun it will be to play? I don’t know …but watch the video here >>

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

Rapid Reality Studios has just announced the commercial release of their first MMO: Phylon, a persistent sci-fi shooter. According to Rapid Reality, Phylon “combines the fast-paced action of a traditional shooter with the persistence and depth of an MMO.”

The word spread is that Phylon stands alone in the sea of games. It dares not thousands, not millions, but billions to come adventure its scenic zones. Phylon, called “The Last Game,” takes the 3rd person shooter to new heights.”

New videos from Tabula Rasa

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

This is one of the games that after years in development, it has changed focus so many times that we can’t count them. There was the martial-based adventure, but now the game has moved into a futuristic shooter setting.

According to the creator Lord British this a story based MMO and PvP is only a very small part of it. There will also be sequels every year so that the story never ends. Well, let’s say you play the game for a month and must wait a year for the story to continue, are that really what the market wants?
I should not speak, I am PvP geek myself and if I want to play a story I buy an adventure game. But that’s me, and Lord British has done it before with Ultima so I will just sit back and bow for the master. Meanwhile I show you these videos from his latest creation Tabula Rasa

Second Life land dispute goes IRL

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Although I really think that Second Life is not really a game, a lot of people would of course disagree. And since SL count’s as a game, this latest news from gamepolitics.com is quite interesting to read since it seems that some virtual land dispute that started last year has moved into actual REAL LIFE court rooms.

Attorney Marc Bragg “exploited a URL quirk to grab several plots of virtual land for cheap,” and Linden Labs then suspended his account, citing ToS violations.

secondlife.jpg
Bragg responded by filing suit in a Pennsylvania court, which Linden tried to have dismissed (it didn’t work). No word on when it will actually be going to be heard in federal court, but it probably will since real money is at stake. If it does, it could be very interesting since the verdict of the case can set a statement for how virtual items should be handled in the future.

A video of a Scraped tablet …sort of

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

This Fall NcSoft will give us Tabula Rasa.

this one could be a interesting MMO game …since the word spread is that Tabula Rasa the developers combines fast-paced action with the immersion of a role-playing game.

Frankly, I haven’t heard so much about it (or maybe I didn’t pay attention) but its all about an epic war between a xenophobic alien race bent on galactic conquest and the coalition of rebel soldiers who’ve traveled across the galaxy to stop them.

What I do know is that in latin,Tabula Rasa, means something like scraped tablet and refers to the belief that individual human beings are born with no innate or built-in mental content, in a word, “blank”.

I certainly hope that this is not a good description of this game…

Judge youreself, this video shows some epic battle … so, enjoy this trailer of the game and please do tell me what you think about it!

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures vs World of Warcraft

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

I’ve heard a lot about Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures the last few months. AOC is an online action RPG. And if it’s something I really would like …it would be a dark MMO game with great PvP.

But somehow I have doubts … everyone says that this will be the greatest game of all time …but when you look at the pictures …I don’t know, it feels a bit like been there, done that, doesn’t it?

Yes I know it has great graphics, I know that it will improve the PvP gaming, taking it to cloud 9 …but is it fun?

Frankly, I am worried. It’s not that I don’t like dark games or something. It’s just that …well, I want some love put into the development. As far as I can see from the pictures, this could be a darkened and polished EQ or LOTRO visually. I really want a game made with a touch of humor and love put into the characters …

I mean everyone is wondering why World of Warcraft is kicking ass and attract new gamers. Why do people love the cartoonish and old game with big cows walking around … Huh?

You don’t get it? Well, take a trip to Azeroth and just spend a few hours in Stormwind or Undercity and talk to the NPC´s. Why do people love World of Warcraft? I have one word for you folks: Love!

Meanwhile I have two gampeplay videos from Age of Conan … Still not saying it’s a bad game …just would love something more than what I see right now.

AOC frostsvamp trailer

In AOC the players will encounter a dark, lush, violent and sinful universe, presented in fantastic graphics and stunning 7.1 surround audio. In the true vision of Robert E. Howard’s dark universe it’s now time for you to become a messenger of death.

Bad marketing and Fury …

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

This is one of the things I like with games. The developers urge to satisfy every gamer. Every developer has to be inovative and satisfy our lust for more.

But why is that? Why arent we satisfied with what we got?
Does it always have to be new sound, cooler graphics, and better weapons?
I know I want it … and once in a while I get it.

The bad thing on the other hand …is poor marketing.
You know how the developers always tempt us with what is new and better but they seldom tell us how it is better and why …

I don’t know about you, but I am really tired of hearing “this game revolutionizes the market yada yada yada” and find out that this game is a copycat of the game from the other developed that came out last year…

Fury is a good example of this kind of marketing. Look at what they say at their website …

- “Fury is a new online role playing game that is revolutionizing Online PVP. “
- Great, but how?
-“It gives online gamers the ultimate PvP combat experience and is unlike any other multiplayer role playing game (RPG) in the market at present.”
- Again, great, but how is it different?
- “ Well, Fury doesn’t make you grind through levels for months before you can begin PvP. It doesn’t even compel you to fight a single mob! “
- Great, but wait … that’s exactly like another game I know … its called Guild Wars and was released a few years ago ..

This is how it continues. But as the sad sort of gamer I am, I of course look beyond all this yada yada yada and will give this game a try too. I mean some day a MMO-game will have to pull me out of Azeroth … isn’t that right?

Just remember, I never say don’t try Fury or any other game … I just complain when I hear that same old story when a new game is unleashed at the market … At least tell me the truth, don’t say things that tempts me to try it when it’s basicly the exact same thing that I’ve tried two years ago ..

Just to show you that Fury might be a good game …look at this video …

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

This is one of the PC games I am really looking forward to… As you guys know I play a lot of World of warcraft, but now I have set my eyes at Age of Conan.

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is an Online Action RPG, mixing a deep, story-driven single-player experience and a massive and brutal multiplayer end-game brings forth the ultimate representation of the Age of Conan.

But Conan’s rule is on the brink of chaos, spiraling towards the doom of ancient evils.
