Detroit Prosecutor Issues (outdated) List of 10 Violent Games to Avoid For the Holidays

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

OMG … you know that Detroit is the second most dangerous city in America, according to 2006 crime statistics. I really think they should allow their kids to play more games instead of running round the streets fighting. Anyway, according to gamepolitics.com the top Prosecutor Kym Worthy thinks violent video games may play a role. Worthy has issued her 3rd annual list of the Top 10 Most Violent Games. And gamers around the world will understand …nothing. The list is so out of date that a rotten pear will feel fresh if you compare them.

It won’t be especially difficult for parents to avoid purchasing the games on Worthy’s Top 10 List, here it is >>

1. Grand Theft Auto
2. Manhunt ( we assume she mean 2007’s Manhunt 2)
3. Scarface
4. 50 Cent Bulletproof
5. 300 (I havent even heard of the game ..I saw the movie thou)
6. The Godfather
7. Killer-7
8. Resident Evil 4
9. God of War (GoW2?)
10. Hitman Blood Money

Of the titles worthy said:

It’s no wonder we’re seeing the crimes we’re seeing lately… Please do not buy these video games and bring them into your home. It desensitizes [children] to violent acts. Well avoiding them would probably not be a problem … Avoiding such stupid list on the other hand …

Video game teaches teen girls to ‘lie, bitch, and flirt’ for popularity

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

A controversial new video game for girls implies that stealing, sexual dalliances, drug use and gossiping pave the path to teenage empowerment, with the express objective being to “lie, bitch and flirt your way to the top of the high school ladder.”

Coolest Girl in School is billed as the young woman’s answer to Grand Theft Auto, the hugely popular series in which players steal cars, kill police officers, and indulge criminal impulses. The girl-centric role-playing game puts a magnifying glass to the darker side of school life, with participants encouraged to experiment with fashion, drugs, sexuality, cutting class and spreading rumours in an effort to win.

Although Coolest Girl in School won’t be widely available until January 2008, its ongoing testing in Adelaide, Australia, has at least one organization sounding the alarm over content it deems “toxic” and “grossly irresponsible.”

Does girls really need to play a game to remind them of high school’s depressing social hierarchy or maybe this is a developement for non-understanding parents that forgot how highschool was like?

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

From IGN: “Andonicos Kalogerou is a man devoted to science and the war against superstition. From his office in the historic centre of Athens, he has worked diligently for more than 5 years, travelling all over Greece and revealing the paranormal for what it truly is: drunken fantasies and uneducated hysteria. But his intelligible, safe little world is going to come crushing down when a call from Pheve, his adopted sister and fervent advocate of the mythic, informs him that his step-father is not only missing, but presumed dead as well.

With a heavy heart, Andronicos travels to the place of his childhood, high atop the Greek mountains, to bury an empty coffin and reunite with his quarrelsome step-sister. Little does he know that each step irrevocably brings him and Pheve closer to what Destiny has in store for them. For the death of their stepfather heralds the beginning of the greatest struggle between good and evil with the prize being nothing less than the very future of this world”.

The Club Blog at IGN

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

I have told you about the club before, didn´t I? This is a racing shooter from Bizarre Creations, that went from PGR through Geometry Wars to The Club.

Bizarre Creations always likes to give the player a chance to compete against their friends on leaderboards, and give people a chance to prove they are the best, whether it’s the best in the world or just the best among your mates.

The main challenge with blending the best aspects of a racing title with a shooter is the length of the levels. We have a term we call ‘reboot racing’ in the office, which is that feeling that if you completely mess up a corner of a race, they write at their IGN blog. If you want to know more I suggest that you read the blog here >>

Six months to Spore

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Spore will release in roughly six months time, according to its creator Will “The Sims” Wright.

“We have the game fully playable at this point and it’s in final testing”, Wright said yesterday in an interview with Radio 5 Live.

Spore’s an ambitious game, which he admits, that’s essentially a life sim. Players start off as a single-cell organism and then create their species at every stage of its evolution - from its first steps on land through to tribes then a culture and then finally it’s off to explore the galaxy.

The club is not only an Urban Legend …

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

For most people, The Club exists only as an urban legend – a game where criminals are paid huge amounts to carry out gunfights and where online spectators view, gamble and cheer them on in a deadly game of skill. Yet the rumours are true. People are getting rich. People are dying. The first task is to survive, but according to their rules - quickly, relentlessly and with style…

Players choose between eight unique fighters, each with their own combat style and agendas, as they travel the globe in a series of visceral urban battlefields. In addition to a variety of single-player scenarios, The Club boasts an array of multiplayer options to satisfy even the most discerning action aficionado.
